4.90$

Truehost Cloud provides VPS in Europe and the United States with automatic distribution (Data Centre Lottery). Check the ping and route! A location in Kenya is available for specific tasks.

TrueHost Cloud is a global cloud computing service provider with a presence in the US, Africa, and Europe.

Geolocation lottery: How the “Europe/USA” option works

When ordering VPS, you will find that the data center selection field shows the paired value “Europe/USA” without the option to select a specific country.

Technically, this works on the principle of Random Allocation. The provisioning script automatically deploys the virtual machine on the node where there are currently free resources. Since Truehost often resells the capacity of large giants (such as OVHcloud), your server is equally likely to be located in Frankfurt (Germany), Boarnu (Canada), or Virginia (USA).

For a system administrator, this means an unpredictable network route. The difference in ping to Ukraine between these locations is huge: from a comfortable 30 ms (Europe) to a noticeable 140 ms (USA/Canada).

Hidden fee: $10 per location change

Many users expect that if “random” throws their server into the US instead of Europe, it will be enough to write a ticket to support for the transfer. This is where the main catch lies.

According to the official File Migration Policy document, moving a VPS to another node without increasing the tariff is classified as a “Lateral Move.” In the company’s price list, this service costs $10.

Formally, support is right: you were sold a service in the “Europe/USA” region, and it was provided correctly. Therefore, changing the location is considered an additional paid option. On cheap plans, the cost of this transfer can exceed the price of a month’s rent for the server itself.

Tip: If you have already ordered a server and received an IP with high ping (USA), it is more profitable to immediately request a full refund within the money-back guarantee period than to try to negotiate a migration, which may turn out to be paid.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Wide range of services: TrueHost offers solutions for different needs – from cloud hosting to dedicated servers.
  • Reliable support: Technical support is available around the clock to ensure that issues are resolved quickly.
  • Scalability: Services can be easily scaled according to the growth of the business.

Cons:

  • Limited geographic locations: Although TrueHost has multiple data centers, their locations may not always meet the requirements of users from certain regions.

Verdict: What is Truehost good for?

Given its location-specific nature, Truehost Cloud is an excellent solution for tasks where server geography is secondary:

  • Personal VPNs (if ping is not critical for gaming).
  • Parsers and scrapers.
  • Backup servers.
  • Test environments (sandboxes).

However, for production projects with a target audience in a specific region (for example, websites for Europe/Ukraine), purchasing this plan is risky.
